Jordi Amat: We Will Give Everything for Indonesia

The Indonesian national team is set to face Australia in the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup on January 28, 2024. This is a historic achievement for the Garuda Squad, who qualified for the knockout stage for the first time in their history.

One of the key players in this remarkable journey is Jordi Amat, the Spanish-born defender who obtained Indonesian citizenship in 2022. Amat, who is the deputy captain of the team, has been a solid and reliable presence in the backline, as well as a leader and mentor for the young players.

Amat, who plays for Real Betis in La Liga, expressed his pride and gratitude for being part of the Indonesian national team. He also shared his message and motivation ahead of the crucial match against Australia, who are the defending champions and one of the favorites to win the tournament.

“We’re making history, this is crazy. We deserve that (to qualify for the knockout stage). We’re in a very difficult group, we’re fighting. We did it,” Amat said, as quoted by VOI1.

“Everyone supports each other, every player encourages each other. This is our big family. Everyone gives everything for this jersey (Indonesian national team). We are proud of this moment,” he added.

Amat acknowledged that Indonesia are the underdogs in the match against Australia, who topped Group B with three wins and no goals conceded. However, he said that the team will not give up and will fight with all their heart and spirit.

“Looking at our chances, maybe we can be called the underdog team in this group. But, you never know, this is football,” he said, as quoted by Kompas2.

“We will give everything for the next round. I believe we, the Indonesian national team, will do our best. Let’s go!”

Amat also revealed that he is eager to play in front of the Indonesian fans, who are known for their passion and support. He said that he hopes to see 30,000 fans in the stadium, as the host country has allowed 50 percent capacity for the matches.

“I can’t wait to see the 30,000 fans in the stadium. I hope it will be a good match for Indonesia,” he said, as quoted by Tempo3.

Amat’s message is a reflection of his commitment and dedication to the Indonesian national team, which he joined in 2022 after obtaining his citizenship. He made his debut in the 2022 AFF Cup, where Indonesia reached the semi-finals.

Since then, he has become a regular starter and a key figure in the team, forming a strong partnership with Hansamu Yama in the center of defense. He has also been a positive influence on the young players, such as Bagus Kahfi, Egy Maulana Vikri, and Witan Sulaeman, who have shown great potential and talent.

Amat’s presence has also boosted the confidence and morale of the team, as he brings his experience and quality from playing in one of the best leagues in the world. He has also shown his respect and appreciation for the Indonesian culture and people, learning the language and the anthem, and embracing his new identity.

Amat’s message ahead of the match against Australia is a testament to his love and loyalty for Indonesia. He and his teammates will face a tough challenge, but they will not be alone. They will have the support and prayers of millions of Indonesians, who are proud of their achievements and hopeful for their future.
